Once in a lifetime event

July 19-25, 2028

$3,495 per adult
(based on twin share)

Join 4WD Touring Australia's Carlisle Rogers
on a once in a lifetime journey to see and capture the longest total solar eclipse of the century in Australia from the heart of the Kimberley.

In 2028, the longest solar eclipse for over a hundred years in this country will run from northwest Australia all the way to Sydney, with a maximum totality of over five minutes in Australia's northwest, and we invite an intimate group of adventurers to join us to experience and to capture this rare moment.

Following on from our successful Exmouth Eclipse Expedition in 2023 where we captured the total solar eclipse there with a mere one minute of totality, this is a much more ambitious and spectacular undertaking.

While we're there we will be based at El Questro Station, exploring the best of the East Kimberley region, enjoying nightly entertainment and learning everything there is to learn about solar eclipse and travel photography from Carlisle Rogers one on one.

This trip is designed to experience some of the best experiences the Kimberley has to offer, while providing expert photographic advice and guidance on the ground.

This trip is designed as a self-drive/ self-accommodate/ self-catered trip, apart from special group meals as included in the itinerary, but let us know if you'd like us to arrange transport, transfers, accommodation or catering on your behalf.

This means participants should bring appropriate camping accommodation with them, i.e. swag, tent, caravan, camper trailer, etc. as base pricing includes all camping fees for the duration of the tour.

Trip itinerary

July 19 - ARRIVAL
Arrive at El Questro Station, our pied-à-terre in the East Kimberley.
Today is all about getting into place and relaxing after the long journey to get here.
Camping is the default accommodation, but can be upgraded to safari tents or hotel rooms if available.

July 20 - FULL DAY FISHING SAFARI
We will be heading out into Balanggarra Country chasing the ultimate Kimberley freshwater prize: wild barramundi, with Birchy, a local traditional owner who knows exactly where to be and when to ensure we get on the bite. There is nothing in this world more thrilling than hooking up a wild barra and buckling in for the fight of your life.

July 21 - ECLIPSE DRY RUN & STATION STEAKHOUSE DINNER
Today, we run through every minute of the real deal, making sure our equipment is ready to go, finding every little problem that only something as complex as location photography can unearth.

July 22 - TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE
Today is the day. From 9:26am to 12:31pm, we will experience this total eclipse from beginning to end.
On location nice and early, ready to go, we will focus on completely and successfully capturing the eclipse.
We don’t have any other plans today apart from heading home to back up images and celebrate!

July 23 - GORGE HIKE & 4WD DAY TRIP
Today we’ll see some of the best of El Questro, with a morning hike into one of the station's famed gorges with a swim at the end.
In the afternoon we’ll head out on a 4WD trek into the heart of the property and along the Pentecost River.

JULY 24 - EMMA GORGE & SUNSET DRINKS
Emma Gorge is arguably one of the crown jewels of the Gibb River Road, a beautiful waterfall at the base of a horseshoe-shaped canyon with a good hike in.
In the afternoon we’ll head up to Saddleback for sunset drinks and nibbles.

JULY 25 - CHECKOUT AND DEPARTURE
For those who are keen, we will be running an additional tour immediately after this one running west on the Gibb River Road checking out many of our favourite off the beaten track locations, finishing up in Broome a week later.
